Corporate Structure
The cooperative REWE Group is a globally operating trade and tourism company. The REWE Group (Revisionsverband der Westkaufgenossenschaften) was founded by 17 purchasing cooperatives in 1927 - and it is proud of its cooperative roots. The Supervisory Board, shareholders, retailers and Executive Board of the REWE Group are committed to the cooperative structure, which is set up for the long term as a guarantee of independence and self-determination. Since its foundation, the REWE Group had its headquarters in Cologne.

Together with its subsidiaries, REWE-ZENTRALFINANZ eG, Cologne/Germany, (hereinafter referred to as RZF), forms the RZF Group (hereinafter referred to as Group) and, in conjunction with the cooperatively organised independent retailers (included in the RZF Group as associates at equity), the REWE Group, an international group of companies in the trade and tourism segment.
As of 31 December 2022, the Group comprises besides the parent company RZF 300 (previous year: 287) national and 169 (previous year: 166) international subsidiaries.

Stores and Countries with Focus on Business Activities
In 2022, the REWE Group was represented in 21 European countries with about 384,000 (previous year: 380,000) employees. The total external revenue generated in 2022 amounted to 77.2 billion euros (previous year: 76.5 billion euros).
The business activities of the Group can be broken down into six segments which are subdivided into further segments. Moreover, the Group is active in the business segments as outlined in detail below:
The business segment Retail Germany encompasses the sections REWE and PENNY in Germany and Retail Germany Central Companies.
The REWE segment is active in both retail and wholesale. It includes 1,598 supermarkets and consumer-markets operating under the REWE and REWE CENTER brands. 2,803 cooperatively organised REWE and REWE Dortmund retailers as well as nahkauf-stores and external third parties are supplied on a wholesale basis. REWE is also active in the online business via the REWE delivery service at REWE.de.
Included in the PENNY Germany segment are 2,135 discount stores operating under the PENNY sales line.
In addition to the German real estate companies, the Retail Germany Central Companies segment also includes the manufacture and sale of bakery products under the Glocken Bäckerei brand, the production of meat and sausages under the Wilhelm Brandenburg brand as well as domestic and foreign commodity companies and online business (ZooRoyal and Weinfreunde) and E-Commerce Service (REWE Digital).
The business segment Retail International encompasses the Full-Range Austria, Full-Range CEE as well as PENNY International segments. A total of 2,784 supermarkets and consumer-markets are operated in Full-Range Austria and CEE. In Austria, stores are operated under BILLA and ADEG brands. In 2022, the retailers model was introduced at BILLA in Austria. A total of 370 ADEG and BILLA retailers in Austria are now supplied on a wholesale basis. With the supermarket format BILLA, Retail International is also represented in Bulgaria, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. In addition, drugstores are operated in Croatia and Austria under the BIPA brand. In Lithuania, supermarkets are operated under the IKI brand.
In the PENNY International segment, PENNY MARKT and PENNY MARKET brands are operated at a total of 1,703 stores in Italy, Austria, Romania, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
The business segment Convenience comprises the sections Convenience Germany, Convenience International and Convenience Central Companies. The Convenience Germany segment, to which 16 REWE To Go shops have been assigned, and Convenience International segments are responsible for the supply of petrol station shops, department stores, food retail and beverage shops, fast food chains, kiosks, canteens, bakeries and other providers of food to go. All in all, Convenience Germany and Convenience International supply more than 74,000 points of sale. The Convenience business segment is active in Germany and the Netherlands under the Lekkerland brand and in Belgium and Spain under the Conway brand. The section Convenience Central Companies comprises central services as well as IT services.
The business segment DIY Stores operates 275 stores in Germany under the brands toom Baumarkt DIY stores and B1 Discount DIY stores. Furthermore, 37 retail stores and franchisees are supplied on a wholesale basis.
Apart from the retail sector, the Travel and Tourism segment is the REWE Group’s second core business under the umbrella of DER Touristik Group, one of the leading tour operators in Europe. Over 130 companies are part of DER Touristik Group (previous year: 130). The Group employs over 9,200 staff members in 16 European countries (previous year: over 8,000 staff members in 16 countries). Every year, millions of guests travel with one of their tour operators or specialists. The DER Touristik Group encompasses renowned tour operator brands such as DERTOUR, Meiers Weltreisen, Kuoni, Apollo, Exim Tours and Fischer, over 2,100 travel agencies (including franchise and partner tour operators), hotel brands such as Sentido, Aldiana or Calimera as well as the online travel portal Prijsvrij Vakanties. With 72 offices (previous year: 74) the combine-owned agency network of DER Touristik Group is active on site for its guests in 30 travel destinations (previous year: 27). The employees in the destination agencies support the guests of DER Touristik Group at the holiday destination from arrival to departure.
Under the business segment Others, central services of the parent companies and various subsidiaries for group companies and third parties are combined. It essentially comprises procurement functions (merchandise wholesale business and warehousing), central settlement, assumption of the del credere risk, IT services, energy trading (EHA), financing of the Group as well as coordination of group-wide advertising activities.
